Festival

The Festival held in honour of the famous Harper and composer Turlough O'Carolan includes Concerts, Set Dancing Céilís, Harp Recitals, Lectures and Music sessions.

Harpers and traditional musicians world wide are now coming in big numbers to Keadue for the August Bank Holiday Festival.

Artists

The following are some of the Artists who have performed at the Festival over the years: The Chieftains, Sean Keane, De Dannan, Altan, Archady, Dervish, Stocktons Wing, Maire Ní Chathasaigh and Chris Newman, Belfast Harp Orchestra, Gráinne Yeats, Dordán, Mary Black, Sharon Shannon, Frances Black, Laurie Riley, Michael Bean, Therese Honey, Harper Tasche (USA), and Birkin Tree.

Friday Aug 3rd - Opening of Festival

  • 8.45pm: Address of welcome by Liam Ó'Cuinneacháin, National Competitions Officer, Runaí Roscommon County Board CCE
  • 9.00pm: Concert in Keadue church with The Spanish Lady Ensemble. Featuring Patricia Daly on harp, Paul Philips on Bodhrán and Stefano Uberti on Double Bass (Booking Tel +353 (0) 71 96 47216)
  • Céili with Swallows Tail

Saturday Aug 4th

  • 10.30am - 1.00pm:Harp Workshop. Set Dancing Workshop
  • 3.00pm: Ceili Dancing Classes with Tutor Mary Conboy. Especially suited to visitors
  • 4.30pm: The Ancient Men. Traditional Morris Dancers from the villages of the Cotswolds in England
  • 9.00pm: Concert with Charlie McGettigan & Eleanor Shanley

Sunday Aug 5th

  • Seán O'Riada Mass in Keadue Church - concelebrated by His Eminence Cardinal Cathal B Daly
  • 3.30pm: Festival Parade. Official Opening of the Festival. Outdoor Entertainment. Craft Demonstrations, Exhibitions, Vintage Car Rally & other events
  • 4.45pm: Traditional Music and song with Shaskeen
  • 6.30pm: Music Session - featuring Liam Purcell & Friends
  • 9.30pm: Frankie Gavin & Hibernian Rhapsody in Concert

Monday Aug 6th

  • 10.30am: Harp Competitions commence
  • 11.30 noon: Visit to & laying of wreath at O'Carolan's Grave
  • 2.00pm: Arigna Tour - of the Arigna Mining Museum & Windfarm
  • 4.30pm: Afternoon entertainment. Traditional Music and Song with Best Foot Forward on the outdoor stage
  • 7.30pm: Traditional Irish Music with Liam Purcell & Friends and Door Dancing Competition with MC Eugene Murphy of Shannonside Radio.
  • Harp Display - by Harp Maker Colm O'Meachair during Festival

Wednesday Aug 8th

  • Bingo

Sunday Aug 12th

  • Dance with Keith McDonald and The Showband Show (Bar Facilities)
